Piezo or Electronic: Which One Do You Have?
These two systems fail differently, so identify yours before you start. A piezo igniter is purely mechanical. You press a separate button, a spring loaded hammer strikes a crystal, and it produces a single loud snap and one spark. No battery, no fuse, no wiring beyond the high tension lead.
An electronic igniter produces a rapid series of clicks for as long as you hold the knob in, and it needs power to do it. Wait until the cooktop is completely cold, turn every knob off, and close the tank valve.
